The Daedalus Lab at the University of Murcia (Spain) is looking for candidates for a 4-year fully funded PhD position at the Department of English Philology on the relationship between time and emotion. Applicants should have a background in linguistics, psycholinguistics, psychology, cognitive science or equivalent domains. Native or advanced knowledge of English is required.
Applicants should be EU nationals or belong to states that, by virtue of international treaties of the European Union and ratified by Spain, are subject to the free movement of workers, as defined in the Constitutive Treaty of the European Union.
The research will be conducted in the framework of the project “Time and emotion: linguistic mechanisms for the emergence of emotional meanings in temporal expressions (EMOTIME)”. The selected candidate will look at the intersection of time conceptualization and emotion communication, analyzing the affective content of different metaphorical construals of time in language. This interdisciplinary research project will analyze emotion expression and perception in metaphorical expressions of time using corpus analysis tools, AI software, such as ChatGPT, surveys and behavioral experiments.
The candidate will integrate a vibrant laboratory of cognitive linguists offering a large national and international network, and will work in the city of Murcia, known for its year-round sunshine and high ranking in subjective well-being. Teaching opportunities are available. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
