Postdoctoral project on gesture, time, and mathematics

Funded by a two-year Fundación Séneca Fellowship, Daniel Alcaraz will work with Martha Alibali, University of Wisconsin-Madison

A new research project within CREATIME seeks to understand how humans employ co-speech gesture to convey and comprehend information on abstract magnitude. For two years (2021 and 2022), Daniel Alcaraz will be visiting scholar at the Cognitive Development & Communication Lab, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Funded by the Fundación Seneca, the research foundation of the Regional Government of Murcia, the project will be supervised by Professor Martha Alibali. Daniel will have the opportunity to combine his work with data from the Red Hen Lab‘s audiovisual corpora with experimental methods, in order to better understand the relation between temporal and numerical magnitude. The results of the project will be employed to create new methods and tools to enhance the comprehension of abstract magnitude in school enviroments.
